From my experience, asians come from a very strong work culture and that's where tiger mom stereotypes come from and why there are stereotypes of how there is always going to be an asian better than you. If there are asians crazy with academics (hence why so many succeed in higher education in the west and are actually getting rejected at a higher standards for other races) then it's not strange to think there will be asians who study art with just as much vigor. Asian societies are really serious when it comes to education and alot of Asians move out of Asia simply because the competition is so high there. The best artists have been historically whites, so I think it's just the change in western values like how standards are more lenient for the sake of equality.
