most 3d use id agree with is saving time by choosing what to use models for and what to stick to 2d with. the skill needed to be able to use 3d to a level of creating anything above the lowest level of visual art (like img 2 in picrel) would be its own skill and supplement 2d focus points (img 3)
first image makes me think its all done with no/little model usage, and creates the most appealing look to me, even if itd be much more time consuming
