Buy both, even the cheap stuff is good. Mechanical pencils are all good, it only comes down how you like them in your hands. My favorites are the Staedtler Triplus Micro which are like 5€ and come with a full pack of refills. I have various brands of mechanical and traditional pencils and they are all excellent. Don't overthink materials when it comes to graphite.
