Its also to enhance my spatial skills and activate my inferior emotional brain network which I think I have severly handicapped with years of studying math and engineering. The emotional side of the brain seems to mostly be involved when I paint and allow myself to let go in the process. I strongly believe that you can influence your brain (i.e. utilize neuroplasticity) to improve certain areas of your brain which will then have an effect on other areas of your behavior/understanding in the world.
I'm an mechanical engineer responsbile for analyzing IC engine systems and developing engine structures. I do a lot of detailed part inspection and it definitely goes hand in hand, since drawing/painting trains your eye for details.
Fortuntately I'm comfortable enough not to have to worry about money from my work so it's just a frivolous luxury that I might one day turn into a main thing if I get enough good to get people to exhibit me and buy my works.
