wlop has the perfect balance of painting something that could be professional but also still lacking and looking amateurish at the same time. it just reminds me of my naive youth before being bombarded with the pressures and anxieties of "am i good enough, did i research this accurately, does it catch attention" and just having fun. the guy just fucking draws what he wants and while the execution is not like ruanjia or some autistic level of professional polish, what he does well is selling "the dream". the dream of just putting his wildest imagination on the canvas no matter how generic or poorly executed it is, and showing the world his universe and bringing his characters to life and having people cheer him on for it to a point where he spawned countless copycats who arguably do his style better with a stronger level of fundamentals and technique, but will forever live in his shadow because he was the original. what a fucking chad.
hell his webcomic's story is trash and makes zero sense, but i enviously follow and keep up with his updates anyways because his work gives me that same fuzzy feeling i had when i was a teenager on deviantart and just posting whatever the fuck i wanted without a care in the world.
anyways, wlop's art motivates me to just fucking draw.
