The answer is, they're not ashamed. They are fishing for compliments and "oh nooo, you're perfect!" responses.
This shit is rampant on shitholes like Reddit. Criticism is not allowed, only blind praise or passive-aggressive downvoting (saying it's bad, but not providing anyway to improve).
They're afraid of criticism, negative or constructive.
Returning to that wanting to be "modest", you don't assign modesty to yourself, that's just fucking weird. How others perceive you, or how you reply to criticism, determines if you're actually modest or not.
