This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.
If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.
>I'm thinking of getting the Wacom One, should I buy it?
Fuck off retard. Ask a better question.
>Recommended tablets:
Intuos 3 - Best screenless tablet. Look for one on Craigslist or Ebay.
Intuos 4, 5 & Pro - Also good options. Will burn through your nibs.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech, but a small 10.4" display area.
Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9" - Best option for a display tablet.
Galaxy Tab S7+ - Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro
>Avoid:
XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand - Poor build quality, lackluster pens, broken tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are. Also watch out, Chinese companies shill HARD on /ic/; they do a lot of samefagging and frequently hurl personal insults.
Microsoft Surface Pro - The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.
Lenovo - Bad drawing performance because they're not designed with art in mind.
Cintiqs & other desktop display tablets - Overpriced, prone to problems and will lead to back posture issues.
iPads (brand new)
iMacs and Macbooks - Never buy this garbage under any circumstance. It's a locked ecosystem with rubbish hardware you can't upgrade.

>>6024472 The overlay doesn't wear down the nibs in the Intuos 3 tablets but the nibs do wear and fast the overlay, you'll have pits, that's right pits in no time.
I very much prefer the Intuos 4 even if the overlay is crap at least the worst thing that will happen is scratches that you won't even feel.

I know what i say may be strange, but what about Note10 Lite? Does it have anything like Wacom EMR? I know it's a phone and it's small, but i just want camera first, and ability to draw on it secondary

Hello, I want to ask people who had the opportunity to try out different brands/models for their experience with how much the nib retracts into the pen when pressed down. I'm currently using a pic rel Huion HS611. I've mostly had positive experiences, drivers work perfectly fine for me and I didn't notice any line wobble. The only problem of the ones spammed by OP every time that I can confirm is that the brush rotation based on tilt in photoshop is buggy as hell, but I'm too beg to event want to use it anyway so I don't care. What slightly annoys me is how the nib is retracting when pressed against the tablet. I would say that under maximum pressure it retracts by around 1 mm, but most of the retraction happens on low pressure levels, so even when pressing lightly the nib retracts by ~0.5 mm or so. Is this just how pen tablets work, or is it the le lackluster chinese pens? I was thinking of ordering an used intuos 3, but I wanted to know if this is something that will be fixed by switching brands first.

>>6025649 In my experience the huion pens that I've tried feels a lot more "spongy" because of the way the nib retracts, it doesnt feel like the nib retracts more or less during different pressures. The wacom pens I've tried feels alot more firm and only retracts slightly during lower pressure. It feels a bit nicer to use than the huion ones i own but this might just be a one off thing

>>6025443 From my experience the nibs themselves don't wear down the surfaces unless you consistently press very hard over a long time. Mine's approaching 2 decades old and there's only a few scratches due mishandling or wiping when there's sharp particles on it. The question comes down to whether you can get 15+ year old intuos 3s with spotless surfaces. Else there's an insignificant difference between the 3s and 4+ if you're going to put a sheet cover on it anyways.

How do you guys draw without breaking your backs with small 16 inch display tablets? Or is the trick to pony up cash for the larger displays?

>>6002748 How do screenless tablets compare to display tablets? Does the display screen make a huge difference? I'm still learning and wanted to buy a tablet but I don't know if I'm willing to buy an expensive one just yet.
And another question, my mom has a really old iPad, like so old you can't even update it anymore nor download apps from the appstore anymore, does it come with any drawing apps by default so I can connect it on my PC and use it? Or is it useless?

My Intuos Pro L has fucked charging. I need to physically remove the battery and charge it in a third party battery charger in order to even use the thing anymore. I've seen this seems to be a pretty common design flaw with the tablet I have. It's not the end of the world since I can at least still use the thing in wireless mode, but it does sometimes stutter or even turn off.

do i devalue my intuos pro if i don't use a screen protector? I don't really care it eats up nibs quickly like that - does the device perform worse if the "scratchable" area is used?

Hello /ic/. this is the first time I've posted here, I just made an illustration on /o/ with my smartphone, a Galaxy note 10+ (I'm waiting to have money for a graphic tablet and a PC capable of doing graphics).
If you have any tips to help me improve my technique, that would be greatly appreciated.
