>>130225617Honestly the way this comic has evolved genuinley astounds me. Back in the 2000's Jeph was a hipster drunk who hated his life, and so was Martin. The cast was drunk so often it wasn't even an event so much as a regular feature to watch alcoholic 20somethings who hated their lives BS about new music albums coming out in the real world at the time, and Jeph had actual hipster cred because he could genuinley say he saw Arcade Fire when they were a bunch of nobodies playing for like 20 people before they blew up and that was just how he lived his life, so Martin came across as being at least KIND of cool as a result.
But that all changed really really abruptly when the dude stabbed himself. The last time there was a central cast that would drink and talk the shit like that was immediatley before and Claire came out immediatley after and Martin became this milktoast dude who existed so a new audience could live out their transgender romance fantasy of ice cream kisses and endless emotional reassurement that was in literally none of Martin's past relationships, while also having any jokes at Claires expense edited out in a way nobody else did.
I genuinley think when Jeph tried to get out from rock bottom he left a part of himself there, and thats why the comic fell off. He stopped being a young troubled dude who was going to underground shows and started being a bitter middle aged divorcee who cared about a bunch of shit that would never have mattered to him before.
