Lightning struck several times. Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Burnett and the others behind BTAS were the right people for job and were given a ton of freedom/knew how to work the S&P. Them subsequently being able to expand their universe with more shows is really remarkable, especially since they kept learning as they were doing it. They made sure each show felt different and was worthy of its existence in the universe. Then they tied it all together in JLU.

We won't ever get something like it again as episode orders are far smaller. Compare Young Justice. It has 91 episodes. It was a real struggle to get to 91.Weisman and fans had to beg for more. Batman the Animated Series in its 3 year run had 85 episodes. It's a different industry now.

Bruce Timm and the rest of the JLU staff should get a lot more praise around here. Even after years of being inactive, the managed to bang out a masterpiece with Justice League Vs The Fatal Five.

YJ hasn't gone full bugman but it is getting close. Aquaman wasn't treated as incompetent despite it being a "All hail the King (female)!" plot and one of the reasoning that he gave for abdicating throne was an appeal to monarchist values (Mera being raised to be a ruler) rather than some form of "It is Her turn".

The thing about them for is that even if it was an early form of progressive politics I just don’t see how people would care a ton now unless they’re looking for something to complain about. Stewart was already a pretty popular GL and I can’t name a single person that cared much one way or the other about Hawkgirl or Hawkman, they’re basically interchangeable and it’s actually kind of nice having one more woman on the primary JL lineup.

It’d be another thing if they used one of the GLs that nobody cares about for diversity.
