The issue isnt that kylo is derivative anon, the issue is that he's not even competent, and that's still the case under rian, a villain that never wins isnt a good treat, simple as.
And it would defintely come as a major ass pull, especially if he still loses at the end anyways. And the final movie is way too alte to really fix that.
