The film does such a better job of expanding on everything - Peter doesn't just give the suit up solely because of a lack of respect or because balancing his life with being Spider-Man is hard - he's emotionally torn to the point where he's questioning whether he deserves happiness and even questioning if he's a decent enough human being to be worthy of being a hero. The loss of his powers (web shooters included) plays into that character arc and it wouldn't work if some of Peter's powers were tech based.
