Race is also one that can't really be a sticking point due to how much variety there is. Like, they literally could be like "oh that's a beast demon, they're a different race, fuck them" but there's so many and everything is so blended and condensed that it really doesn't work out.
So in the end, class and power are the only things that make sense for people to still be assholes to each other about.
Probably initially was purely a system of strength where the strongest were the top and those weaker had to respect that and could be looked down on.
But Belos introduced some more societal stigma through the "coven vs wild magic" stuff. So that was another layer of antagonism people could latch onto now.
