>>130203937>what makes /a/ posters more likely to put down hundreds on a fancy statue of Astro-Boy or Asuka than /co/ posters doing the same for Spider-Man or Wonder Woman?Mainly because /a/ statues start as cheap as $20 arcade figures, where as the lower end of /co/ statues tends to be $150+. There's cheap comic statues, but they usually aren't that good; plus action figures hae been the usual way to get comic merch; where as before the early 2000's Japanese toy merch for characters were usually simpler toys or vinyls; collectors would get statues and model kits or chogokin. This started to change around the 2000's with stuff like SHF, Revoltech, Figma, etc and some smaller lines before those, but there's still an emphasis on statues.
