One, men aren't doing any better. Animals also make themselves appear bigger in order to intimidate rivals the same way young men 'square up' before a fight or in hopes of getting the other guy to back off. And yes how we engage in conflict is also a part of culture.
Two women have more sexual freedom than at any other point in history, and there's also more women available to men then at any other point in history. So we need to quickly garner sexual attention, once again this comes in animalistic forms. Displays of status, capability, and health have always been the norm for men and those have changed throughout the years as well. However, the only thing that's unique to us is that women are able to enjoy sex without any worry of conception, or attention without any promise of sex. So they display interest to entice, seduce, or just to gauge how she fares in men's eyes.
With twerking in particular. It isn't that different than, grinding on men like was popular in the 00s and 10s, shaking their tits like was popular in the 90s or 80s, dancing in provocative clothes like in the 70s and 60s, lifting and flapping their skirts in the 50s and 40s etc etc etc.
Twerking only really gets singled out because blacks came up with it, and gorillas do it so the low hanging fruit of a joke could be made about it.
