>>130203320The spider-man and BB (haven't read ditko or Moore's captain atom) changes were much more minor in comparison to o'neil's question. Making a character more light-hearted is not the same as making him a failure, killing him, and then completely flipping his philosophy around and giving him the opposite set of morals, so that's a very bad comparison.
Also, I'm not complaining about the change itself. Ditko himself did the same thing with BB (albeit with a new identity, also). The difference is Ditko never pretended to respect BB's original creators or their work, and O'Neil shouldn't have either. I have the same problem with Perez pretending to respect Marston despite making Wonder Woman into a completely different character and series and this is in spite of his WW run being my favorite comic runs. The problem isn't the change, it's the corporate-mandated fake respect that's sickening. Despite not having read his captain atom and disliking watchmen, I still have a lot more respect for Alan Moore as a person because he's willing to admit he didn't respect Ditko's philosophy and wouldn't have liked him if he met him.
