In any case, what I offered (supporting indies) is still a far better option that fighting to make old IPs public. The only good thing putting Superman in the public domain would do would be to make everyone tired of hacks and their hot takes on popular IPs, forcing everyone to start creating more new stuff.
However, then you'd have two problems:
1, it would take at least a decade of shitty public domain works to pass before people realize the futility of it.
2, even if the companies created new IPs, they'd hold onto the newer ones with an even tighter iron grip than before.
