Long Answer: Licensed comics aren't as appealing anymore and hardly create comic fans. That audience they attracted from non comic readers didn't stick for other comics. Image and Boom are experiencing success with creator owned properties like The Department of Truth and SIKTC, IDW is just trying to catch up.
We've honestly ran out of licenses that match the criteria
>Is there an active fanbase for this IP let alone that would read comics?>Does this licensed comic remind or even accentuates to the reader why they love the IP to begin with?>Is there something in this comic that the reader can't get anywhere else from the IP?>If canon to the source material, do the stories not feel like filler?>Is there a sizable talent pool willing and eager to work on this IP as a licensed comic?Seriously name an IP that hasn't been tapped yet that fulfills this criteria for the long run.
A lot of IDW's licensed based strategies didn't last
Their CN licenses didn't work even after doing that crossover event
The Hasbroverse died miserably.
There are no other options except expand on creator owned especially since they're no longer in the best financial position and licenses bleed money.
Their last licensed endeavor that wasn't from an already used property was a Napoleon Dynamite mini that sold like shut.
Sonic comics may have their diehard fans but if SEGA pulls the license they'd be left in a vulnerable position because that's their second best selling ongoing
TMNT being their current first
Also, they lost Star Wars
>>130182779They were already in that process
To be honest, people overhype TF in IDW
The sales figures would eventually plateau to 5k which is honestly pretty shit for licensed standards
