I like that Bronze Age Bruce was sane enough to touch a gun.
By 1994 or so, he'd try to save a boat from robot bomb dolphins and as soon as one finger touched the rifle, he'd collapse in the fetal position saying "Mom... Dad..."

In the 1970s, Batman had a sense of humor and some perspective. One story with Neal Adams art had Batman spend Christmas Eve at a police station, singing carols along with the cops.

When that version of Batman got mad, it had more impact.

Frank Miller really did fuck up Batman. What he did is the "Fuck go back". Not entirely his fault, DKR was supposed to be Batman at his most extreme point, but people took is as a default characterization. Still, I don't like the hyperfocussed autism prevalent in the Miller stuff either.

Frank Miller is just way too much of a weirdo. All those "auteur" comic writers are huge weirdos and their impact on comics has been negative. Miller, Byrne, Claremont, Ennis, Ellis, even Morrison and Moore. Just way too weird in a bad way.
