You don't need to "start abstaining" for a day or from a day onwards, you just train the "muscle" of abstension.
You know you're "lifting" and "training" in the moments when you experience these two things at once:
1) you want it
2) you're not doing it
If you don't train for a while, the muscle will become weak.
If you train every day, the muscle will become stronger.
