>>130130911It felt very rushed and as a result was underwhelming. It's almost like the writers had bigger plans and then had to downsize when they found out two seasons was all they were getting.
Seeing Shane give a noble sacrifice for Mei and listening to the midget henchman talk about how Shane looked out for his crew is very jarring when you remember he threatened to kill Joel if he didn't complete the Jaeger repairs by sundown even though his brain had been fried after trying to do Shane's bidding. Shane then blows his head off in front of Mei. It's like an entire section of his character development was skipped to get him from S1 to S2.
Also, none of the main characters really changed or grew. Taylor never got a moment that showed he became a real leader, Haley is still emotionally impulsive, and Mei stays emotionally stunted and hard-headed. She literally pulls her gun on Haley after Haley saved her life not 10 minutes ago and then Haley considers her her sister? What?
Also, also, big bad Kaiju is killed the exact same way as 1st movie with self-destructing Jaeger. Not exactly a creative way of ending the show.
There was also the completely unneeded scene of Rickter taking over Bogan that never comes up again. Are they showing back up in a sequel show or something? Why else have this scene at all if it never comes up again?
Mom's death got me though.
