Actually, I never managed to get into Be More Chill. I tried to watch a rip once and all songs sounded a bit off and I ended up dropping it about a third of the way in (a bit after they introduce the brain chip I think). I could give it another go, but at the time I was a bit burned out after watching (and not enjoying) Dear Evan Hansen so I kinda quit the whole musicals thing for a while

I do think these like these "teens trying to survive high school" musicals all end up blurring together.
It's pretty harsh how the trends in the animatic scene went from Heathers to Dear Evan Hansen and Be More Chill.
I like when the artists went for like Hadestown, which is more of a high concept musical over the usual high school shit

This except Heathers. That might not be the best musical out there, but it sure is my favorite, as it's hilarious, absolutely outlandish, and filled with great songs.

Usually a musical is a movie/play where the bulk of the story is told through songs. So akin to Disney movies like Frozen/Moana, but with an even larger focus on the songs (at least in my opinion. Some people think these movies already qualify as musicals)

Both Be More Chill and Hadestown went through significant revisions during the workshopping process which left both of them a little scattershot. But Hadestown had the benefit of a strong sense of identity whereas Be More Chill always felt like a half-baked idea and struggled with its songs.
