>>119154165>54 is good, but I feel like a lot of fans say it’s their favorite movie out of peer pressure, I did that exact thing for years54 is a great movie, but here is the thing, even though it is the original movie of the genre, it lacks most of the tropes we now identify the genre with... so it should be easy to understand it is not someone's favourite. Sadly, as you said, there is a peer pressure about putting it in first place just because of status. In the end, I think 54 has to be respected for what it is and what it started, but that doesn't mean everyone must unconditionally love it.
>the showa era is the worst era, it has some gems but also a lot of absolute garbage, so it feels like a mixed bagCan't agree with you there, but it's your opinion, so I respect it.
>>I disliked Shin Godzilla, but the absolute shitshow that the fandom put me and others through for not liking it has made that dislike turn into hatredThat's Ok. I love Shin, mostly because, for the first time in my life, I finally saw Godzilla for the monster he is suppose to be, an unnatural force of destruction that feels otherworldly
>King of the Monsters 2019 is my favorite Godzilla filmI wouldn't call it my favourite, but I do consider it the best non-Japanese Godzilla movie ever made, I'm actually anxious to see if "VS Kong" can top it (And I'm hoping it does)
>I think that people need to stop putting so much stock into the Japanese audience responses to each film, who the fuck cares, they’re people like you and IAs this anon said
>>119154234 as much as it pains some, Toho (and for that matter, any studios that makes Tokusatsu movies/series) doesn't care about other countries opinion, with any overseas earnings being just a bonus to them. So, the Japanese audience opinion does matter. Maybe one day overseas opinion will start having some weight in the balance too, but for the mean time it is not a deciding factor.
