>>113938334>corrosion/rusting is nice but it's not as...in-depth as corruptionNot to toot my own horn here, but I think there's more depth to it when you view it in context of what it's supposed to represent.
Gems are, as much as I hate using Tumblr terminology, "woman-coded", just as MM are "man-coded".
Corruption, just like corrosion/rust, or to the larger extent, bound to themes of emotional and mental health.
Let me put it this way:
When a Gem gets corrupted, its physical form changes drastically, as if too much the internal changes. This can be viewed as a commentary for the issues women have with their body image. Of course, this only a tip of the iceberg on what corruption of various characters represented during the show's run, but I don't want to go off on a tangent.
The point is that just like the difference in MM/Gem anatomy that doesn't allow the former to become giant monstrosities when they're emotionally devastated, sexes have different problems, with some being way more prevalent in each.
MMpire is an meritocracy, this was established very early on. Law suits the individual. Everyone's free to do what they want. On paper, of course. No system is without flaws, no matter if a man who employed it is made out of meat or metal. If there's a winner — someone's lost. If there's a tip of the pyramid — then there's a bottom.
Passion is the driving principle of Metal Men philosophy. War, arts, they are all same under it. Now, apply this to what I've said before: What does an actual loser has to hope for in MM society? What if there's a single thing he wants to do and he can't do it for a reason he just can't overcome? How will a disenfranchised, failed by his own faults nobody will cope with it?
