Casting Affleck as Bruce was also .. a mistake. I mean, I loved how well he could portray the anger and sadness that Bruce Wayne requires, but the age gap, having no Robin, making him Dark Knight Returns age without having any proper setup ..
Why were we given Suicide Squad without showcasing things like, say, Boomerang without a Flash movie, Waller without a Bruce Wayne: Fugitive/Murderer? storyline (setting up her position in the Government/Checkmate/Cadmus) ..
How come DC magic was set up without Shazam first, or a Zatara/Zatanna storyline? Why did we get Enchantress without Eclipso?
Why did Clark Kent obtain a position at the Daily Planet at the very end of Man of Steel? Why did we have a Supes film without Jimmy Olsen, Lex Luthor, or Det. Turpin? Why did we have a Justice League movie (effectively two films with Parademons) without one single mention of Darkseid?
For that matter, why have a Wonder Woman lore set up with her being as from the Olympian Gods, but no tie in to the wizard Shazam? (The 'Z' and 'M' in Shazam are specifically for Zeus/Jupiter and Mercury/Hermes lol duh)
I can appreciate the wanting to do these films with different directors, because sort of like the comic books, the different titles have different creative teams - but what's missing is synergy, a sense of overarching plot. I felt like all this talent are on the same team, sure, but that they can't suffer communicating to one another, and that weakness results in mismatched storytelling, breaks in canon, and the loss of fan interest.
