Reposting from another thread because fuck it
There's nothing wrong with the style, for what it originally was. AT and RS were absurdist comedies inspired by D&D and 80s nostalgia, it would make sense for them have that style.
That said, it becomes an issue when goddamn everything else has that style too, it stops being unique and is uniform to the point of sterilization, when everything else is an absurdist comedy that uses nostalgia as the setup and punchline then it stops being absurd.
This is the artistic equivalent of tracing someone else's work and then erasing some of the more defining features with your own so it wouldn't "technically" be plagiarism.
Then you have hacks like Sugar who try to copy anime without understanding most anime artists start at drawing still life and real people and not stylized cartoons, and then get stylized later to better fit their style.
Fuck me sideways. What gets me the most is that there are animators who have genuinely decent styles that lend themselves to animation but aren't because "they aren't what the industry is looking for" and such bullshit like that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8qyBqFDJzA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0oQMIuvKbo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UKSrLzOokY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aam4u3oAFUo
