I'm still mad Steven fused with Amethyst forming Smokey Quartz, opening the avenue for Steven fusing with all the gems. I never wanted Steven to fuse with other gems. I thought a huge part of this character was that while the gems always tried to insist he was special, deep down he was a human. Like sure he has a bubble and a shield but it was his humanity that really made him strong. I could get behind Steven fusing with Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl to form the temple guardian, but only at the very end of the series. It would be surprising, heartwarming, and make the final fight of the series a kaiju battle.
But by blowing their load early and showing him fusing with other gems, there will be no surprises or excitement in the ensuing fights. Oh look Steven and Pearl are facing a homeworld character. Wonder what will happen. Oh look white diamond is here. Now this is happening.
