>>108978857Thanks, I'll have to check it when I have the chance. Though I'm not as doubtful as I was. It seemed like the kind of thing anons just bullshit or too readily believe because it makes them mad, but given the general tenor of the replies supporting it, I no longer really feel that way about it.
It's a shame, and arguably the most intolerable change. Not for dumb cuckold meme reasons, but because Butcher's wife being the one, genuinely good thing he had left in his life was super important to the character. Her being raped, dying, and then Butcher beating the baby that killed her to death married to simple, petty but violently criminal nature of the heroes with the over the top consequences of their powers. Hughie losing his girlfriend was the same. She wasn't just killed by a stray bullet from a careless cop. She was fucking annihilated, her arms violently ripped from her as Hughie hung on to them while the rest of her was splattered around. Butcher's wife wasn't just raped and left having to deal with the consequences of the rape, the baby was super powered and exploded out of her. That's the kind of story The Boys is, for better or worse. But at the heart of it, Butcher's tragedy was he could've been a better man, but circumstances killed the people he loved. People that genuinely would've stayed with him. His wife actively leaving him for the Homelander really undercuts that. You could still have it as the motivation for Butcher doing the same shit once he finds out, but it makes the character very different.
