WATCHMEN by Terry Gillian.
>The Watchmen are a team of vigilantes formed by Doctor Manhattan, Silk Spectre, Night Owl, Rorschach, the Comedian, Ozymandias and Captain Metropolis.
>They get outlawed after accidentally blowing up the Statue of Liberty.
>Three years later, Rorschach begins investigating the murders of Captain Metropolis and the Comedian and deduces someone is targeting the Watchmen.
>You know the basics: Jon is too detached so Laurie fucks Dan, Jon gets accused of giving his loved ones cancer (including Laurie) and fucks off to Mars, Rorschach gets set up, locked up and later rescued by Dan and Laurie, etc.
>Dan, Laurie and Rorschach learns that Ozymandias is behind the conspiracy.
>Having deduced that Doctor Manhattan's birth was the cause of the impending nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union, Ozymandias has used his wealth to build a machine through which he can kill Jon Osterman before he becomes Doctor Manhattan and retroactively change the timeline and save the world.
>Ozymandias figured his old teammates would try to stop them and attempted to kill them one by one, but Rorschach figured out they were being eliminated.
>Alerted of the disruption in the space-time continuum, Doctor Manhattan shows up, kills Ozymandias and cures Laurie, but comes to accept he was right and ventures into the past, shielding his human self from the explosion that'd give him powers.
>The entire timeline collapses due to his intervention, teleporting Rorschach, Night Owl and Silk Spectre to the real world, where they are comic book characters in Alan Moore's graphic novel.
>The trio are surrounded by policemen and onlookers, one of them gets handsy, Rorschach breaks his nose, and we fade out on our heroes readying to fight again.
The prospective cast is full of 80's goodness: Arnold Schwarzenegger as Doctor Manhattan, Jamie Lee Curtis as Silk Spectre, Kevin Costner as Night Owl, Robin Williams as Rorschach and Gary Busey as The Comedian.
