A BIG issue I have is that Butcher isn't really close at all to the source. He's not the man with the plan. In fact, he's pretty much bluffing all the time and making shit up as he goes along. He doesn't have years of intel through bugs and contacts, etc. He pretty much knows shit all at the beginning. Mallory was presumably only responsible for getting revenge on Lamplighter and then s/he (Mallory is a woman now) just called it off because her grandkids were killed.
By the end of S1, I don't think Butcher has any motivation at all. There's no revenge to be had for his wife. No, now it turns out his wife cucked him willingly and then fucked off without telling him.
He has no right really to be mad at Homelander. In fact, if anything, he should be thanking Homelander for being one of the few people who told him the truth.
Butcher should probably kill his own wife and then go fuck off with Mallory somewhere to watch birds for the rest of his life.
It's weird. I don't see a particularly good resolution there.
Annie/Starlight is not really close to source either. She's a much stronger, independent woman pretty much by ep2.
I'm sure there's more to comment on, but for the time being, here's my verdict:>If you want a faithful adaptation of the comic book...you will be disappointed and I would advise that you don't watch this.>If you liked the comic but are willing to let accuracy go down the drain in favour for a show that will be a little bit more unpredictable...then strap in but be ready for a lot of changes.
I think the showrunners knew that there'd be a million blog posts talking about essentially spoilers because the whole plot of the comic can be skimmed through on wikipedia so they intentionally fucked with accuracy to keep people guessing.
However, surely they knew people would be upset. Especially with what they've done to Butcher.
And Terror?Fuck it.
