For them diverse representation is the highest of literary effects. They're so fixated on it that they're incapable of comprehending an appeal to romance, world building, conflict, or narrative pacing. They interpret such criticisms as an attack on a gay icon.
This is why I find American progressives so fucking disgusting. They're the secular atheist mirror image of the insufferable Baptists I grew up around. You find in them the same lack of self-awareness, the same insidious desire to assimilate all culture, the same unwavering need to defend the one thing their faith has boiled down to.
