I think it was until 2011 I learned that this site had a purpose beyond raiding and lulzy stories, and thus dipped into the other boards.

6-7 years ago on a chat site called chatbored (still alive but sadly a carcass of what it once was) someone linked tubgirl and that eventually led to /b/. I had 0 interest in 4chan back then but when i was 17 i started using this place again and never really left.

I'm rather fortunate that none of my irl friends took any interest in it, it's kind of my own thing. I've only had to deal with a few acquaintences (mostly from work) who were open 4chaniers. They were the worst to be around.

Very rarely come across 4chan users irl. I have otaku brothers and sisters who get quick news from /a/ they aren't really 4channers though.

I met a guy in a nightclub who too used 4chan, we talked about it for two minutes. That's it really.

I am not actually sure. I used lurk SA and Memepool (yes) and a bunch of forums, so I probably found the link there. I quickly discovered there was a whole world of anonymous image and discussion boards. That must have been in 2005. For a few years I mostly posted on smaller chans (remember Bookchan?), even ran my own.

I've also just realized I have never posted on this board. Sup.

soon after that i quit posting on the namefag postcount gtaforums (where and when i actually did feel like post counts mattered because i was ignorant) and soon after i was freed of the pile of normie discussion garbage and haven't gone back since because i'm stuck here.

thanks pat, you fuckup. (he was soon after perma-banned for allegedly sexting an underage girl on gtaforums. i believe photos of privates or the request of such may have been involved)

Not to dissimilar to my timeline. I mentioned 7chan, but I was freely floating between other imageboards like, er, (cough) petichan and what have you.
4chan happened to be the most fun and active. I remember when I first visited /b/ and hit F5, page 1 refreshed with whole new content - that well and truly blew my mind. It was probably why I stuck around here.

When I was 20, I was taking a web design course and we got randomly grouped for a project. One of the guys in my group for some reason brought up 4chan and wanted to discuss whatever stupid shit was happening in /v/ at the time, and he would sit and browse /v/ and /b/, and only /v/ and /b/, during lectures. One day, he invites me to hang out with his friends on campus. They spent the entire time shouting about fan theories about videos games and whenever someone would do something "funny" one of them would call out, "I've got to post that to the chan later!"

What gets me is aimless contemplation of how and whether this place has changed. Yes, /b/ was always shit was a meme even when I first visited this site. But it isn't true. Not literally, at least. It really has changed. Or it has always been changing. It's only that now, or at least since the most recent time when I came back to 4chan (2014?) it had virtually no redeeming qualities. I'm still here, obviously. Sometimes I'll check the catalog just to see what's there. Seldom is there anything of note. That just makes me wonder why I still visit. Can't even really say I have a homeboard. I check /pol/ regularly for lulz and masochistic curiosity. /tv/, /lit/, /his/ and the video game boards sometimes will have discussions I am interested in.

But in the beginning it was the ethos of /b/ which brought me here. Some semblance of that I still get in /bant/ and [s4s], but it's not the same. Is there another /b/, somewhere out there? Sometimes I wonder if I should look at other websites.

I don't get the whole reddit boogeyman thing. The only times I've been to that site were instances where I googled something and the answer came up on one of their forums. Again, no exposure to it as a whole. But I imagine if I got into it I could have some actual discussions which might be rewarding.

But then again, who wants to register an account? And besides, that aforementioned missing place...I wouldn't find it there.

First heard of 4chan in 2005, saw some classmates in high school browsing /b/ in the computer lab. Thought they were just looking at some porn site.

In 2006 the Habbo raids happened, and that led me to /b/. I didn't even realize it was the same site I saw my classmates using in 2005 until a while later. I used /b/ for a while, then got bored since you can only use /b/ for so long before you notice the content is super repetitive. But when you're 16 all that gore and porn is a huge shock to the system, takes a while for it to stop having a strong effect.

First blue board I visited was /a/, since I liked anime, and man that was a huge impact on my life. Started lurking /a/ regularly in early 2007 and I've been on and off that board ever since.

Originally came for the /h/ faps, but stayed for the /b/ hijinks. Then I discovered /mu/ in 2010 and became a tryhard hipster. 7 years later and I'm 1 semester away from completing my useless music degree. Almost became a permavirgin with all the /r9k/ I would browse tho.

Eventually I slowly start lurking though and it's actually not bad, people are strict and say rude things, but nothing like what I heard about, which actually just described /b/ at the time

I could see what anime were popular and it got me into a lot of new shows, pic related one of the first anime I watched thanks to /a/'s influence

From there I extended myself to other boards, like /v/, /ck/, etc

Unfortunately it seems almost all other boards have descended more and more into the /b/ style/ /pol/ style shitposting, so I pretty much stick to just /a/ now
The reverse is that /a/ has gotten a lot stricter as it seems to be the only board that wants to avoid that fate, but that also means there's less funposting around on it, it feels like

2009 when I was depressed in my first year of college, I started talking to a bunch of online friends who introduced me to /b/.

It honestly didn't help my outlook on life too much in retrospect, made me retreat into the security of the internet and anonymous shitposting for entertainment. I ended up dropping out and being a NEET for 2 years. Lowest point of my life desu. That said, I did spend a lot of time playing some good games and watching a bunch of shows and animu that I never would've had the time for.
