Quorstion lads.

I'm getting an AAS in biotechnology, then getting a BS in biochemistry, after that I don't know yet.

When people say "learn python" what do they mean? What specifically should I be learning and what are employers looking for someone to be able to do? How can I demonstrate competence in python?

it takes like 2 hours to learn python, might as well just try it. what you need to understand is not the python itself but the fundamental of programming.

if you intend to work in genetics with a computer then try to focus on String manipulation, just some script to pull sequences from files, most bioinformaticians don't really write a whole program themselves. they just write a script to automate a pipeline of programs. but sometime you might need to make a specific tool for your work.
