Its absorbtion by plants is highly inefficient, so in nature most plants rely on symbiotic fungi on that, something that isn't allowed to happen in agriculture. A huge lot of phosphorus runs off to water bodes and the sea/ocean, and also indirectly from sewage. Recycling from waste water should be possible. (sewage sludge can be used as fertilizer)
