Maybe the fact that CGP gray not usually posting straight fantasy or the fact that it was written by Nikky B might have clued me in, but you can't reasonably expect the average viewer to extrapolate that hard on what might as well be a nice, well animated story.

That's because you're thinking short term. When you're in that hospital bed at 80 secretly wishing to live longer and being afraid of your death it hits you like nothing else, so yes we should do everything in our will to stop suffering, since that is ultimately what death is, an unnecessary tragedy. Research against aging never receive any money. Only Aubrey de Grey and SENS do something. And they have budget about ~10 million dollars(not per year, for all project!)
Just compare with NATO budget: it bigger in a lot of many orders of magnitudes.
You should consider that anti-aging research recieved about 0 dollars (and it's close to true). We even never tried to do this.
And I don't understand why NATO budget larger than anti-aging budget. China, Russia, and ISIS will kill all us with smaller probability than aging. Iooks like our elites are stupid and can't in logic.

nick bostrom is a philosophical wanker, the problem with discussing such vague topics is that a intelligent and outspoken person can always produce clever-sounding arguments for whatever position he wants
his opinion "science has progressed so maybe now we can stop death" is retarded, if people in medicine/biology would genuinely believe that, they would all jump into research to get those exciting results
and let's say I want to put a billion dollars a year into aging, how will you he do that? there's a limited amount of intelligent people in biology, medicine and other sciences. if you just give out research funding, scientists will write bullshit in their proposals to research a mildly related topic, etc.
