>>10896606>>10896613Hydrogen Bombs are triggered by a fission chain reaction, which allows for a split second of fusion releasing lots of energy. This isn't good for power generation because its not sustainable.
What I meant to say is due to the incredible amount of energy it takes to cause a fusion reaction, it may not be possible to get a net energy gain on the scale we're currently attempting. We have actually fused things in our current reactors, but every time it has a higher energy input than output.
I'm no nuclear physicist but scientists have been saying we're 20 years away from viable fusion power for over 50 years now. The burning of fossil fuels is currently a huge issue because of CO2 contributing to climate change as well as causing other pollution including devastation of the land while mining for coal and drilling for oil. Instead of hedging all of our bets on the modern fantasy of cheap clean fusion power, why don't we build nuclear reactors in remote areas away from civilization? Why not one X miles from hoover dam with a water pipeline for the cooling towers?
