What studies, arguments and evidence is there to support or not that acting like an assholes ( being mean or aggressive ) is in any way advantageous to an individual?

When you can demonstrate that said behavior isn't the norm and that there is a logical cause to your aggro behaviour. If your bro and his wife are staying at your house and aren't financially stable straight up outlining that you refuse to let them stay any longer if she gets knocked up and the fetus not aborted is "mean". However, it's a great way to say that your generosity has a limit. That you won't set yourself in fire to warm a cold room so to speak.

Edit: the term "assholes" is a little to ambiguous, so here's how I redefined it.

Asshole = selfishness at the expense of others.

You can be an asshole sometimes and get away with it, but often it seems an equally good plan of action is to act in a "yes-man" way. In my experience, it is very easy to get people to like you if you are not belligerent and very agreeable all the time. I'm speaking more in the context of daily conversation

You should watch/read The Rising of the Shield Hero. Story is basically a way too nice guy sent to his dream fantasy RPG world, only it's not a dream fantasy. The world is full of jerks and people constantly try to fuck him over at every turn. But then he then masters the art of being a complete selfish asshole but in a ways that other people are thankful for and grateful for. It's a good primer for learning how to be selfish AND also be appreciated for what you do do.

It depends entirely on how society is structured. Some are more vulnerable to anti-social behavior than others. Free-market capitalism selects for asshole behavior. It's up to society to make sure that anti-social behavior does not get rewarded.
