Teaching astronauts to drill would actually be harder than teaching drillers to be astronauts. Being an astronaut is more about not freaking out ins small spaces, not freaking out under stress, and following highly detailed procedures. Drillers live a life where stress is at a constant high, death and injury is very common, they have to not only follow highly detailed procedures, but also follow them in a manner that changes almost constantly due to the nature of the job itself.
I'd rather have a 10,000+ hour lifer driller with 1 week of astronaut training than some guy who sat in a ship or ISS and twiddled his thumbs for 10,000s hours getting progressively weaker despite the exercise regiment.
It'd be far different if they only needed to do a survey with a few instruments and take core samples. Drilling, at a fast rate on the other hand, is nothing like that.
