For academics sake? Its a meme mishmash of fields that doesn't require its own unique degree. At least not for now.
For hiring purposes? Its going to be the 'data analyst' position for pharmaceutical companies. A PhD is definitely more than whats necessary.

Master student here. Kinda wish I'd stuck with just being a normal biofag so I'd be having a much more chill time during my master project, but computational analysis IS the biology of the future to a large degree, similarly to what happened with physics, no way around it.
Go for it, just be aware that it's an evolving field with lots of mishmash and that you'll never be as good at statistics as a guy who has a background in applied math.
