So the universe is expanding. Does that mean that there exist something outside of our universe, into which its expanding? Is our universe in any way contained, or is it unbounded/infinite?

If the universe is unbounded, and we assume that a finite amount of matter was expelled during the big bang, could it be possible that other "big bangs" have occurred beyond the edge of our universe?

There is a lot of speculation about manifold universes, or the idea that our universe was spawned from a low entropy region of a greater universe and the Greater-Universe is just bubbles containing sub-universes.
The problem is none of those are really experimentally verifiable at the moment.
The universe doesn't need to expand into anything though to be expanding internally.

There is an idea that singularities give birth to new universes.
I think you'd need a minimum of quantum gravity to even begin to explore the idea.

"Big Bangs" probably happen all the time. If you zoom out far enough you'll probably see clusters of universes like you see clusters of galaxies and solar systems.

You've got to be careful. Our universe is bigger than what is observable. The particle horizon isn't really the "edge" of space any more than the horizon is the edge of the world.
If you zoomed outit would have to be at super luminal speeds and youd see the universe winding backwards until the big bang happens and you're left observing a geometric point.

"The Universe" just refers to space where matter or energy exists. Matter is expanding away from other matter, thus the universe is expanding. Space is infinite, there's just nothing there.

im personally a fan of the idea that the universe is a 3D finite space curved in on itself in the 4th spatial dimension, like a matrix of dots being drawn onto a deflated balloon, and when you blow up the balloon it shows how the expansion is taking place

i've also heard a corequisite theory that 'dark matter' is just standard matter thats translated slightly into the 4th dimension
