All research is done on cell lines like these (HEK293 and MDCK, which I use in my lab, COS cells, HELA which no on really uses that much, etc etc etc).

Regardless of their source, they are just clumps of dividing cells which we grow up, freeze down to store, and just keep perpetually passaging them for use. There is no point at which the pepsi being produced that you drink touches these cells. It would be the same as you buying some pepsi, pouring on dog shit you find on the street, and then claiming that there is dog shit in pepsi products because...well you put some pepsi on dog shit. Same with this. They take some pepsi, put it on the cells, and I dont know what the hell they are looking for (probably receptor activity of some sort).

Pepsi didn't make the cell line. They just partnered with a biotech company that happened to use HEK293 for these experiments.

They are most likely just transiently expressing the receptors in HEK293 because that provides an isolated system (ideally there is no taste receptor pathways being expressed in HEK cells to gum-up the resuts, so any activty they see with the expressed receptor will be through direct interaction, and not from something the cell itself is doing).

There is no real moral dilemma. A fetus was aborted. Cells were obtained. The two were not connected; the fetus was aborted because the parents didn't want the baby. It would have been aborted regardless of whether cells were taken or not.

Or if you think there is somehow a moral dilemma, buckle up buckaroo, because pretty much everything you use in day to day life has some connection with cell lines such as these. Any medication, over the counter stuff, supplements, and/or any food that you eat has had cell lines such as these involved in their research.

There is no means to justify.

A bit of a hyperbole. Yeah, contamination is notorious in some cell lines, and all the pop-sci articles love to gush over it, but I know of no lab personally that has run into the issue. It would be pretty incredibly to have that be an issue (we've never used HeLa cells in our hoods/lab at all and I've sequenced a lot of HEK cells recently). I'm far more concerned about mycoplasma than rogue hela cells.
