He might be in jail for something serious (at the very least we know he's a lolicon).
There are also people who seem very hyped about their art but actually hate everything and just want to vanish; I had a friend with 15k followers on deviantart who just deleted everything and started anew with a different alias, even though she seemed to love what she did before. Of course she was "caught" later, but if you change your themes/style, it's possible to blend in.
