I am a beginner, and I want to draw in the American comic book artstyle. What are some general tips in getting that style down? I understand lighting and I am working on anatomy, but how can I get that comic book feel?

Aside from the obvious fundamentals (perspective, anatomy, form, etc) it helps to do studies of comic artists you like. A lot of them post rougher stuff and pencils up on instagram which can be very helpful to you since it's not covered up by layers of coloring and other stuff, just the raw pencils. Studying the pencils can help you understand and focus on what makes their drawings tick and what makes their drawings look like comic drawings. The VZA channel on youtube is also amazing. They have a shit ton of videos of various pro comic artists doing sketches, inking, etc. Jim Lee is also a fucking saint, he streams on twitch regularly and archives a lot of the streams on his youtube channel. He has a couple of 5+ hour streams where he draws an entire comic page from scratch and another one where he draws a full cover from scratch. Super helpful to see a master like him work.

A lot of it comes from inking techniques ontop of the obvious super stylized anatomy and poses and costumes.

Even as a penciller you need to understand when to use flat solid tones to indicate the black shadows that will be filled in with ink, when to use hatching for the half-tones. Understanding how to draw folds in fabric like capes is also huge and how to render the various textures in costumes with just line and shadow.

Look up books by Stan Lee. I heard they are pretty good, they will teach you both fundamentals and specific stylization.

this book is sooo underrated.
the section on figure drawing is great. a lot of gems for beginners to learn, especially with gesture.

I second the other anon's suggestion with regards to watching Jim Lee's streams. Richard Friend is also another fantastic YouTuber who works in the comic industry. Good luck, OP.

drawing really is a practice makes perfect field. the more you do. the more you will get better. watching videos and reading helps too.

but you will never get good if you never do it. wanting is nice. but it means nothing.
get a pencil and paper and just start going.
