Get good ventilation first of all, turps can do a lot of damage. Should not be underestimated.
Second of all use good quality turps, dont use white spirit apart from to clean brushes, Don't fuck with low-odor or lemon turps. All they do is fuck you up without you smelling it.
For proper use, put your brush cleaning spirit in a tub and never take the lid off unless you are cleaning your brushes. Always put lids on your turps to stop them getting into the air. Use small amounts in your paints and make sure you handle it with care. Dont just slop it over your pattle, move the paint to a separate container and mix it in slowly.
If you do happen to use large amounts for certain effects, do it outside, or leave the room after.
If your talking about the fumes from oils, then I'm confused. Most paints are a mix of linseed, bees wax and pigments, the majority of these do not smell, however they do sometimes have a very small amount of turpentine.
