If you do not wish to change your subject, you have to carve out a niche for your stuff, because you believe strongly in the vision you have - ie. what you make is something you think people will enjoy, if only they get presented with it in the right way.
The trick here is to find that way of presentation. Keeping at it, getting better, posting it as many places as possible, seeking out specific groups where it might be relevant, and keeping consistent. It takes time to build up following.
Also, you are decent, but you are not a savant or master level. There are a lot of artists out there at or around your level - obviously those who appeal to more mainstream tastes will have an easier time getting noticed.
Thats the point of mainstream.
If you aren't interested in this, then you also have to accept that your stuff has niche appeal, and thus a different, smaller, audience than the mainstream.
And either way, getting noticed is hard work. You have to be active, engaging with other artists and communities, and seeking out opportunities to market and share your art and brand.
Also, Moebious and Miyazaki are by no means niche tastes that are "out of style". Most people who give just a little of a shit about art know and recognize these people.
you have to realize you are not owed attention - it is something you earn. We are all trying and making an active effort to get noticed. Art is crazy competitive in that way.
There are a ton of people in your boat, you just dont see them because they, funnily enough, aren't getting seen.
