>>3774429While tempting this is actually not true. Kim studied his butt off. He said he thinks he has a better memory but if you actually look into this it seems like a normal human memory and it also seems like it comes from his practice of studying things visually every single day. See
>>3771803 I've read a lot of things he's said including from videos and it does seem like he really did gain this ability through sheer practice and non-stop dedication. The guy draws for hours and hours every day and has done so for many many years and he's middle aged now.
I'm not as experienced as him but I have drawn for over 20 years and using his tips I can draw some comic level stuff without any guides too, but not as consistently as him, it's hit or miss because it's brand new to me. I'm not his level, but I can actually see how you could get to a place where you're pretty good at it.
So I wouldn't rule it out as impossible at all. Especially if you find tricks to do perspective without guides, which there are some.
Kim's perspective LOOKS good (all that matters) but it's not accurate. You can take a ruler to his drawings and see the vanishing points don't line up.
A guy like Scott Robertson could probably learn to draw like KJG because he knows perspective so insanely well, he could probably do something pretty decent ALREADY if he did it without any under drawing, just by ghosting his lines to an imaginary VP.
In my opinion you need 2 things to draw without guides or reference. 1. a knowledge of the thing you're drawing, and 2. practice drawing in perspective without guides.
It's not rocket science. It's not EASY, but it's not impossible either. It would definitely seem impossible or like magic to a beginner though.
