"how big could a sprite be?", "what colors was the palette made of?" or "how many colors could fit on a single sprite?", whether you're talking about the PC98, PC Engine, MS-DOS, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Amstrad CPC, or whatever, you will never be able to FAITHFULLY recreate anything that system is able to display. at the end of the day you can still end up with ugly, chunky garbage depending on your artistic skill, but that's a completely different story.
