Anyone know artists who make art like these? I already know some older ones like Max Ernst and Dali, but I can't really find much good surrealist artists anywhere, especially newer ones

i dont know many surrealist artists besides dali. but i love the genre of surrealism, its a great alternative to the abstract and modern art nonsense going on right now. Any argument they use to defend their hideous scribbles can be used for surrealism and it takes actual effort and skill to make, with real rendered images.

theres no excuse to hold up abstrationism instead of surrealism or fantasy art. The camera removed the need for realism? bullcrap! you cant take a picture of what artists can paint in surrealism!! realistic fantasy and surreal is better than modern art crap

i mean why is it always messing up whether to use plural or singular pronouns. is it all people from the same country or does english have weird pronouns

it's impossible to find surrealist art because when you look it up its a bunch of idiots doing odd fantasy paintings. There using the common definition of surreal, not the artistic movement.

nah you just look up the movement, then there's a bunch of artists listed

in the end when you're looking at a movement what you want to do is know the artists, what role they played, how they differ from their buddies and all that, so going throw the artists is ultimately probably going to lead you to more pretty art than just looking at like a pintrest page

Literally people express things in different ways. If someone wants to communicate an emotion or a distinct feeling rather than a message, surrealism isn't always the best way of getting that across. Rothko just bleaches marks onto canvasses, so it doesn't really say anything but he's not TRYING to say anything, he's trying to show us a feeling. You can't just expect people to only make surrealist art because you can't comprehend people liking stuff you don't like

nothing against it existing, but the fact its held up as modern masterpieces is absurd. sure it should have a place in art galleries or museums, the abstract art section. with flickering lights, next to the bathrooms.

Although I can somewhat agree with you, modern art is usually praised for more reasons than you think. yeah usually its a bunch of pretentious bullshit but it is usually carefully planned out and has some symbolism. not all the time but I think there is a lot of good modern art pieces, one of my favorites is a combination of surrealism and modern art called The Kiss
