i've heard you can use acrylic gesso to work with watercolor, has anyone tried it? Can i make detailed and smooth piece with it just like if i was to use good quality watercolor paper?

Sure, it works fine. A lot of artists use gesso on paper to re-use it, or add texture, or go for a really flat, smooth finish. I've never tried it myself, but from talking to people who have, the only issue is doing large washes, you'll have a lot of difficulty doing them. If you do tight, complicated paintings with no large washes, you should be good to go.

Is more for practicing actually, i'm Brazilian, and because there's no actual national watercolor paper brand here, most of the paper is really expensive imported one that just isn't worth to invest into just to practice, but thanks for tip!
