Let's ignore Star for a moment. First we got that Area cameo last week, and now THIS week we get this. At what point do we finally admit that Nefcy is doing this stuff on purpose? The majority already recognizes her as a madwoman, but when will the soccer moms come for her head?

There's also the fact that she's only the second woman in charge of a Disney cartoon, and thanks to her arriving on the scene just as "feminism in the industry" hit its peak before it went full-retard and she gained fame without being kneecapped by its idiocy, she's got a lock on what she wants to do with almost no interference. So how are people liking 3b so far? I think the show is finally getting back on track.

Season 3A really was just filler. I wonder what happened there. Did they expect not to get that many episodes for season 3 after the battle for mewni?

All that needs to happen now is for Eclipsa to do a face heel turn and become a real threatening villian and for Tomstar to die and I'm fully back on board for Nefcy's wild ride.

I was actually really worried that going to weekly episodes was a huge mistake. I mean, think about how much the show would've dragged with some of the pure filler eps from 3a. It seems with 3b they're giving a little bit of story each week. I'm really enjoying the flow so far.

Not likely unless for some reason the issue of Star and Moon being illegitimate really escalated. The peasants arent going to care but I could see Pigeon Kingdom and some other factions including monster lords like the Avariuses using it as a pretext to take control of Mewni in the process putting Meteora on the throne. If Mewni is thrown into conflict over this I could imagine Tom would be heavily pressured to avoid Star.

She didnt have any children with Shastacan, what succession issues would it make? We dont really know how marriage works in Mewni either, though Im guessing the future wedding episode will give more insight. The most logical thing about this whole mess would be Eclipsa gave birth to Meteora while on the throne, ran off to Bombastic, and Meteora was traded for Festivia and history was rewritten to say King Shastacan and Queen Eclipsa had a daughter named Festivia. If all of this comes to be, then yes, it would seem Meteora is the rightful heir to the throne because she was born after Eclipsas disappearance.

Reminder: nobody asked Eclipsa during the Truth Cube session whether she made any of her own alterations to the scroll, nor did they ask whether Festivia is her daughter. And the part BEFORE the (ridiculously sloppy) insertion of Festivia's name refers to a "daughter of Eclipsa and King Shastacan" even though it's clearly stated that no such person ever existed.

Also, the "contract between queens" in Moon the Undaunted recognized both Eclipsa and Moon as queens, which shouldn't have been the case if Moon isn't a real queen.

Conclusion: Festivia really was Eclipsa and Shastacan's daughter, but Eclipsa used her memory-altering spell on the MHC to make them think she's just a random peasant girl.

So again she still has rights as a queen of Mewni otherwise she wouldn't have been allowed to ask a question in the first place. As far as the MHC is concerned, Eclipsa is still a legitimate queen. So logically that would make Meteora a legitimate princess with a right to the wand and the throne

Eclipsa ran away but it doesn't mean she gave up her rights as queen. That little scene was just there to give a an easy to follow visual representation of events. Remember that Mewni is a matriarchal society and the royal family a matrilineal line. Power follows the queen. She didn't need to give up her title amd power to do what she wanted. She could just do it. And she did. The king would have no right to abject. She couldn't just give up being queen just as she couldn't give up breathing. So lomg as she was a butterfly and held the wand she would always be recognized as the queen of mewni. And since the king has no right to rule they needed an heir and the wand they orchestrated this conspiracy to crown someone they deemed worthy of being a queen. Aka someone who isn't a monster.

For Marco to be a far off Butterfly, he can't be directly related to Eclipsa/Meteora.
Eclipsa only had one child, Meteora, before being crystalized. Meteora had her mind wiped and was probably watched for quite some time. She didn't have any children.

The only way it really works is if there was some branch of the Butterfly family tree that wasn't the royal line that went to Earth and made a life, then through generations lost the Mewman traits completely thus leading to Diaz.
Plausible, but still a long reach away at this point.

But we're arguing that it is very possible that Meteora and Eclipsa have more of a right to the throne of Mewni than Moon and Star. The show is purposefully vague about everything surrounding eclipsa and what she wants. but you'd have to be blind that not see that they're laying the groundwork for Eclipsa and Meteora to take the throne from Moon and Star.

We knew that since the whole incident with Star making portals in her sleep. There is no reason for Hekapoo to think she has authority over the royal heir and should 'have been told' about the portal thing before Marco ever got involved in the first place. Royal business is not MHC business by default, assuming so implies MHC has direct authority over the mewni royal family- which has never been stated even if the MHC acts like it more than half the time
That and she originally shows up, kidnaps Marco on the flimsiest of pretenses, and keeps him trapped for a relative 15 years in her dimension. That's fucked up even if Marco is blessed with amnesia about it.

Just because Mewni is a matriarchy doesn't mean the royal family isn't still obligated to follow certain rules and laws - not marrying commoners, not defying noble rules and traditions, etc. Eclipsa abandoning her noble husband for a monster would have been the Mewni equivalent of the abdication of Edward VIII... only this would have been even more chaotic since there was no other member of the Butterfly family to take her place. Hence the MHC's decision to replace Meteora with Festivia and cover the whole thing up to try and maintain the image of the royal family.

There's more to being king/queen than just getting your way all the time, monarchs have to abide by strict rules and guidelines governing their actions and behavior. There are limits on who royals can fraternize with, who they can marry, how power is transferred from one member of a family to another and even whether or not a royal is allowed to abdicate.

I just don't think dimensional scissors can be analyzed that way. It's supposed to show the dimension some metal came from, but we know Hekapoo makes them all herself in the Dimension X-103 forge. No, I'm not defending Star in any way. But, and a big BUT, at least she's improving at a slow pace. Marco's character and goals are deeply flawed from the beginning. It seems as he was never meant for anything greater than to get Jackie. What is Marco's character goal in the story?

Marco is some fan fiction tier character at this point, prove me wrong. What's he even doing on Mewni other than doing laundry and "keeping Star safe". I really hope the writers get their shit together.

It's not like i'm completely defending Marco, the separation of him and Star really made me mad, but most of my complains come from the writing, that separation is still bullshit for me.
Problem is that his screentime was reduced, Star kinda too, but most of those episode were for him and Star having fun together, things that isn't happening in this season, i guess Marco Jr can mean something at least.

Marco's learning the difficult lesson that it doesn't matter where you are or what your rank is in life. He's essentially being broken down into his core. He got everything he wanted in life and realised how little they all meant. The perfect girlfriend was bliss; but bliss is so boring. Being a squire is noble, but nobility is unfulfilling.

He's essentially having to start from scratch and that begins with finding a new direction in life. Something new to strive for. Marco's payoff won't be in what he gets as his reward (as that's Star's character arc) but in what he decides to fight for. It will be his journey that matters, not his destination.

I strongly doubt the show writers are going to get into the complexity of whether or not a teenager adrift in an alternate dimension for a decade and a half maintains or changes his teenage personality given that he has no strong outside influences other Hekkapoo.
