Essentially, the alien is a stand-in for Golden Age Superman, which is a story that has been done innumerably times. And there's very little rationale, much less reasonable, logical and necessary rationale for any number of things not just limited to 'let's just use this alien tech to destroy our human tech so humanity can start over again,' such as why the alien allows himself to be used, given his power levels, etc., and it's not just sleeper agent, we're talking 50+ years. He could just as easily have parked his ass on the moon.
Essentially, all the stupid things that don't even breach the fridge logic test are all plot contrivances and plot devices from a lazy and unimaginative writer just phoning it in.
Put a crappy artist on this and it would have been worth less than the paper it was printed on.
